A gift
A gift
by Joel Howard
To my daughter, Savanna, on her 6th birthday
“Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path” Psalm 119:105 (KJV)
Jesus made you
And promises you
Darkness will know you
And intimidate, or at least try to
I give you this verse
So you may rehearse
Shining God’s Word
Each precious word
Upon your days and nights
Each and every day and night
Like magic but better
Much stronger, forever
Not a flashlight with batteries
But inward courage unending!
Like a holy hug descending
Great force, His hand bending
Lighting, telling
Curse and fright dispelling
God light your way
Each night, each day
How? You say
Well, as you kneel and as you pray
No ground can be darkened
No direction forgotten
If you will my voice harken
And bind His words in your heart and
Wave grace like a flag and
Every lie thus smash and
Hold tight to His hand then
Always, child, you will stand!
Fall once and fall again?
He will renew you once again
Ne’er fear or give in
Just look to His light within
